THE DESIGN PROCESS
There are various steps worked through as part of the Design Process:
Getting to know you and your requirements:
When commissioned to begin a new project it is always useful to take time to understand exactly what you are hoping to achieve from the renovation. How you live in a space and of course your likes and dislikes. If your children do their homework at the dining table or in their bedrooms, do the dogs sit on the sofa? Do you have budgets in mind? And much more. This way we can really deliver a beautiful and practical result that works for your life.
This is usually a collaborative process and I often suggest an early visit to the Design Centre at Chelsea Harbour to make sure I have understood the colour palette you prefer or more importantly, dislike. We may visit an antiques fair to source some items together if that is of interest. Alternatively, I have clients who much prefer me to interpret their wishes and just show them a completed scheme.
It is part of my job to show clients things they may not have considered and sometimes encourage one to be a little more brave but we are creating a home for you so if you do not like something I don’t want you to have to live with it!
DESIGN ANALYSIS
We work through your home to establish focal points, scale, proportions of each room, light quality, which belongings need to be incorporated into the new schemes and anything you wish to sell on or give away.
RESEARCH
This establishes crucial issues such as time scale, budgets, if planning permission is required, the scope of work and required materials.
PLANNING
A full survey is taken of each room showing ceiling heights, window locations etc.
CONCEPT
The visual research. Mood boards are created for the colour palettes, sketches of ideas and room layouts, some fabrics and furnishings are sourced. We build in time for your feedback and some degree of changes to our schemes if required.
PLANS & ELEVATIONS
Scale drawings of all rooms and detailed furniture layouts are produced along with lighting and electrical plans and lists of furniture, fittings and equipment (FF&E).
SAMPLE BOARDS
Sample boards will display all colour palettes, fabrics, lighting, fixtures and finishes, an electronic version will be produced for those who prefer it or who are not in the UK.
ESTIMATES
Estimates for any build works will have been collected for you to choose from and the cost of all chosen furniture, fittings and equipment will be provided.
ON SITE WORK BEGINS
Any detailed drawings required, the specification document for the build team and other craftsmen will have been issued and work begins.
